NASA & PCCC: Partnering to Launch Student Success

For more than 25 years, PCCC and NASA have partnered to turn dreams into reality for underrepresented minority students (URM) from Passaic County who aspire to become the next generation of STEM explorers. Watch this video to learn more:

NASA & PCCC: Partnering to Launch Student Success

This unique partnership has resulted in 300 middle school students participating in a Saturday Science Academy; nine PCCC students interning at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center; more than 100 PCCC students completing NASA-inspired authentic STEM learning experiences at NASA space centers; an Avionics laboratory on campus and a three-year project to address climate change.

Urban Scholars for Climate Change

Eleven PCCC students participated in student research projects focusing on identifying local solutions to climate change. With the support of faculty members, these students explored climate change issues such as clean water, air pollution, the effects of plants on air quality, and rising water levels.

Summer Programs

During the past summer, PCCC organized inclusive enrichment programs, attracting nearly 300 students to its campus. Supported by grant programs like Student Support Services (SSS), STEM, and FIPSE VOICES, the initiatives prioritized mathematics education and followed a cohort model allowing students to build relationships and support each other.

Pre-College Programs

This program provides academic enrichment and support for students who attend Passaic’s public high schools. Ninety-nine percent of the seniors who participated in the program graduated from high school. Through dual enrollment classes, some students graduated high school with as many as 15 -24 college credits.

Open Educational Resources (OER)

PCCC is committed to eliminating the cost of textbooks for all students through Open Educational Resources (OER).  Supported by grants from the Department of Education and the Provident Bank, faculty were trained in researching, identifying, adopting, and adapting OER materials to their courses.  Following the training, the faculty members developed and piloted the OER materials in their course sections.
