Student Art Exhibition Award Winners

The award winners of PCCC’s 11th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition were announced April 18 at an Awards Reception in the Broadway Gallery on the Main Campus. in Paterson. The well attended reception saw visitors streaming in all evening to view the exciting exhibition that featured over 80 student artworks by more than 30 student artists and to be present for the announcement of the juried awards.

Best of Show went to Patricia Mendoza for her photograph “No Break.” First Prize was awarded to Rowan Archimede for a mixed media piece titled “Self Portrait.” Second Prize was given to the drawing “Isolation,” by Eva Garcia who was not present that evening. Matthew Hernandez took Third Prize for his photograph “Radiant Solitude,” and Honorable Mention went to Emily Carrasco Perez for her watercolor painting “Glorious Redemption.” Winners received cash prizes or gift certificates.

Each year, visitors to the exhibit are welcomed to vote for their favorite artwork to win The People’s Choice Award. For the second consecutive year, Arya Dahanuwala captured the prize, this year for her photograph “Reflections: Nature’s Mirror.”

The exhibition was curated and coordinated by Professor Jill Sluka (Graphic Design) and Professor Azadeh Amiri (Studio Art). Serving as judges were Javier Rabelo, Dean of Mathematics & Technology at PCCC and Kella MacPhee, a photographer and photojournalist.

The Exhibition is sponsored by PCCC’s Cultural Affairs Department with support from Blick Art Materials.
