Dual Enrollment

Earn college credit while you’re still in high school. PCCC offers qualified high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to take college-level courses and earn credit while also attending high school.

College for High School Students

Through Dual Enrollment, students who excel will receive additional academic stimulation and an early start on their college career, while saving money on the cost of a college education.

Unlike Advanced Placement (AP) courses, students obtain actual college credit which is based upon progress throughout the course and course grade as opposed to a single score on a standardized examination.

By creating closer relationships between colleges and communities and stronger partnerships between high school and college faculty, Dual Enrollment can have positive effects on high school graduation rates and college enrollment rates

Real College Faculty

Dual Enrollment courses are taught by full-time PCCC faculty, by PCCC adjunct instructors, or by high school faculty selected and certified by the College through a careful process.

In order to teach DE courses, a high school teacher must be
recommended by the principal and have a master’s degree in the subject area. The selected high school teachers are completely knowledgeable about PCCC courses and grading systems.

What Classes Can I Take?

The PCCC Dual Enrollment Team and your high school carefully select the courses that are offered as dual enrollment courses for each academic year.

Typically, the dual enrollment courses offered are at the introductory level and would be those that students usually need to fulfill General Education or Liberal Arts requirements in most college degree programs.

Example:
A DE student who successfully completes English Composition I (EN101) and English Composition II (EN102) would finish a full year of college-level English while still in high school.

The content of all DE courses is college level. College course outlines and College-selected textbooks must be used, and students are responsible for adhering to the academic rules and regulations of PCCC.

Course Credits

The credits earned in DE courses can be applied toward an undergraduate degree in most majors and are usually very transferable to most colleges or universities.

Transcript

Once registered in a Dual Enrollment Course, students will begin a college transcript at PCCC. A transcript is an official and permanent college record of courses completed and credits earned.

A student who wishes to continue his/her college education at a college other than PCCC may request from the PCCC registrar to have an official transcript sent to the college or university of their choice for transfer credit evaluation.  See Transcript Request Form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I transfer my credits?

Dual enrollment students who plan to continue their college education at PCCC, will already have a transcript and do not need to transfer the college credits they earned.

Students who plan to attend another college or university must arrange for a transfer of their earned credits to that college.

PCCC course credits have been accepted by colleges and universities throughout the United States. See NJ Transfer website. However, the decision whether or not to accept credits earned elsewhere is the right of each college. Generally, colleges accept credits earned for courses in which the student has received a grade of C or better, and if the course description matches one of their own courses

Transcript Credit Evaluation
Students who wish to transfer credits should have a transcript credit evaluation with a transfer counselor at the college of their choice to find out if their credits will be transferable.

How will Dual Enrollment courses save me money?

Typically, the cost of a dual enrollment course is much less than that of regular tuition for a college course. Also, students in the DE program may be exempted from some fees required of regular college students.

Tuition is calculated based on the cost per course credit.
The courses offered in the DE program are three-credit courses, chosen to satisfy the basic requirements of most degree programs at a majority of colleges.

Satisfying some of your college course requirements through the dual enrollment program can help you save on the overall cost of a four-year college education.

Note: PCCC tuition is typically lower than that of four-year public or private colleges for a similar course.

“What a phenomenal opportunity! Dual enrollment provides taxpaying parents and students in this community the opportunity to get up to two full years of college completed at a minimal  cost to themselves, with credits fully transferable to many colleges and universities in NJ . My two sons found their coursework at PCCC invaluable in preparing them for the academically rigorous environment in College.”

“PCCC’s Dual Enrollment program is a great opportunity for high school students to learn at the college level.  As well, students have the opportunity to purchase college credits at a significantly reduced rate.  Students receive a college transcript for their coursework and are thus more marketable after graduation.

I strongly recommend all our students participate in the program.”
