PCCC Establishes Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
Passaic County Community College (PCCC) Director of Athletics, Wayne R. Martin, announces the strategic formation of a PCCC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (PCCC/SAAC).
The new PCCC/SAAC is part of a pilot initiative by the College’s Center for Student Engagement to help promote a positive student-athlete experience campus wide. The main purpose of the committee is to generate a student-athlete voice within the institution and constructively address concerns on behalf of athletics.
“The time has come for our student-athletes to voice their athletic concerns as a collective body on campus while preparing for leadership roles that may benefit their future career and life,” says Mr. Martin.
A total of 10 student-athletes, representing a cross-section of PCCC’s athletics programs, attended the inaugural PCCC/SAAC committee meeting and group photo session in October.
The appointed leaders of PCCC/SAAC will serve as a liaison between athletic teams and college officials, while also forming alliances with support groups.
Members will engage in and help to coordinate campus-sponsored events, all with the goal of encouraging sustainability of PCCC/SAAC by creating continued interest in and growth of student life on campus.
According to Mr. Martin, once an infrastructure for the initiative is in place, expected sometime in 2025, PCCC/SAAC can be elevated from a pilot initiative to full club status, making it eligible for potential funding and continued success.
