If you are a student who has been selected for Verification, you must contact the IRS to request a copy of the 2018 IRS Tax Return Transcript. This also applies to parents of dependent students.

What Is Verification?
Verification is the process whereby the U.S. Department of Education randomly selects a student’s
financial aid application (FAFSA) for further review. Upon selection, the PCCC Office of Financial Aid
must request documentation (i.e., tax return transcript, verification worksheet, etc.) as required by the Dept. of Education. Prior to receiving payment of any federal grant, loan, or state award, verification must be complete.
- What Must the Student Do?
A student is expected to submit the required documentation within a reasonable timeframe, preferably 7 to 10 days after receiving the e-mail requesting the information.
Students should submit their documents online. Visit Upload Financial Aid Documents for uploading instructions.
- If the student has not submitted the required documentation prior to November 15th for the Fall semester or April 15th for the Spring semester, the financial aid is removed, and the student will be billed by the Bursar office for all charges due on the account.
- The student has 120 days to submit the requested documentation. If the student subsequently submits the documentation within 120 days after the last day of enrollment, the Financial Aid office will review the documentation and pay the account based on the students’ eligibility. If corrections must be made, and the students’ financial aid may decrease and the will be liable for the balance due on their tuition account.
- Failure to submit the required documentation may result in the denial of all federal and state financial aid including student loans.
FINANCIAL AID STATUSES:
Cleared: If the Financial Aid (FA) Status on your schedule/bill reads “cleared” you may begin class because the college has a financial aid application on file for you. However, keep in mind that the financial aid is estimated and based on your continued enrollment and satisfactory academic progress and performance. The amount due may change if you drop or add any additional courses.
Pending Verification: If the FA Status on your schedule/bill reads “pending verification” you may begin class, but it is an indication that although the college has a financial aid application on file for you, you are required to submit documentation to verify the information reported on your application.
The verification process may take approximately 4 to 6 weeks to complete. If after review the file is corrected and your financial aid decreases, you will be responsible for any balance not covered by financial aid.
