The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
BOOKS UNITE PRESENTS FREE PERFORMANCES OF
“The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao”
Everyone is welcome to a free theater presentation of “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Dominican-born writer Junot Diaz, who grew up in New Jersey.
Actor Jean Perez, a Dominican-American actor and filmmaker from New York, takes the stage at the PCCC Theater in a one-man show, portraying all the characters in this story about a lonely, overweight young man, Oscar de Leon, who is growing up in New Jersey, obsessed with science fiction, and seeking true love, a dream he fears is out of his reach. Complicating Oscar’s life are turbulent family tensions as well as a mysterious curse that haunts his Dominican-born family.
A discussion with the Jean Perez and the theater team will follow the performance.
Showtimes are Thursday, October 1 and Friday October 2 at 1:10 pm, as well as Saturday, October 3 at 12 noon. Performances are in the PCCC Theater on the Main Campus in Paterson. Entrance is at Ellison St. at Memorial Drive.
