Books Unite: Interactive Workshop on The Great Gatsby

April 30 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Join us for the final segment of the Books Unite! program focused on The Great Gatsby, a celebrated literary work by American novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald. Everyone is welcome to an interactive workshop where we will engage in activities based on themes of the novel, including wealth, social class, racial bias, friendship, and the American Dream.  Set in New York during the roaring twenties, The Great Gatsby tells the story of Jay Gatsby, a man from a modest background who becomes wealthy through illegal work as a bootlegger during the Prohibition. Gatsby shows off his wealth by throwing extravagant parties at his lavish home, but he wonders if he really is accepted by a society of people who were born into wealth and if his love for a beautiful, but married, socialite is requited.

Join us to explore this novel through activity and conversation. You can pick up a free copy of the book at the Paterson Public Library, 250 Broadway, but all are welcome to the workshop whether or not you have read the novel.

The workshop is on Thursday, April 30 at 1:15 pm in the PCCC Theater. Enter at 204 Ellison St.  FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Books Unite is a project of Literary to Life, a non-profit organization that promotes literacy and community engagement through reading.
Literature to Life is collaborating with PCCC and the Paterson Public Library to bring Books Unite to Paterson and surrounding communities.
All events are free and open to the public.  The Great Gatsby is the second novel explored in Books Unite/Paterson.
