Books Unite: Interactive Workshop at PCCC
(Directions Below)
All are welcome to join us for this interactive workshop based on the themes explored in the novel “I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, ” which tells the story of, Julia, the teenage daughter of Mexican immigrants who aspires to become a writer but struggles to discover her own identity in a family tied to the culture they left behind.
Led by director/adapter Ana Maria Jomolca, this workshop allows participants to make personal connections with the characters and themes of the story. Individuals will be encouraged to explore how they can step away from the version of the ‘self’ others want them to be and step into the ‘self’ that they want to be.
Participants can engage in discussions of inherited, intergenerational expectations, cultural rites of passage, and different manifestations of ‘living in the shadow’ of someone or something. Through writing prompts, attendees will navigate their ancestry and honor their own visions, dreams, and beliefs.
FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
