Career Champions support student success by fostering economic mobility, improving retention, and preparing them for lifelong achievement. Students are equipped to thrive academically and professionally through holistic support, integrated resources, and collaboration, all grounded in NACE Career Readiness Competencies.
Faculty and Staff Recognition
Each Academic Year, The Office of Career & Professional Readiness recognizes individuals who serve as true Career Champions. These individuals go above and beyond their professional roles to mentor, guide, and inspire students on their academic and career journeys.
Through their commitment, Career Champion awardees:
- Support students in developing essential career readiness skills
- Encourage persistence and retention
- Help foster economic mobility and lifelong achievement
- Serve as role models of collaboration, innovation, and student-centered excellence
The Career Champions Awards Ceremony celebrates these honorees and their impact on student success, while highlighting the vital role faculty and staff play in connecting education to meaningful career pathways.
A call for nominations is sent out annually in the Spring Semester, with awards presented in the Fall Semester.
Mentorship
The Student Career Champion serves as a peer advisor within the Office of Career & Professional Readiness, offering guidance on career-related topics and helping to connect students with valuable opportunities. They support the coordination of workshops, events, and recruiting activities while also assisting peers in navigating career resources. By sharing insights from a student perspective, they help bridge the gap between academic life and professional development.
To prepare for this role, Student Career Champions participate in a 6-week Summer Training Academy focused on strengthening professional skills through hands-on learning, mentorship, and career-focused workshops. Grounded in the NACE Career Readiness Competencies, the program equips students with the tools they need to succeed both in college and in their future careers.
Upon completion of the academy, Student Career Champions emerge with:
Stronger communication, leadership, and teamwork skills
Practical strategies for career preparation
Greater confidence navigating today’s workforce
A solid foundation for lifelong professional growth
