PCCC 2024 Grads Named to NJ All-State and All-USA Academic Teams

PCCC is proud to announce that recent graduates Bilal Gebril and Samantha Marte have been named to the 2024 New Jersey All-State Academic Team. They are among  38 students from New Jersey’s 18 community colleges to be recognized by the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC) for their outstanding academic achievements and exceptional service to their communities and colleges.

All students on the NJ All-State Academic Team are also members of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society and were nominated for the Team by their college leaders based on academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service.

Bilal and Samantha, along with the entire NJ All-State Academic Team were honored last month at the New Jersey Community College Scholars Celebration, held at the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton. Also attending were Dr. Steven Rose, president of PCCC, Dr. Jennifer Gasparino, professor and PTK coordinator/co-advisor at PCCC, and Mr. Andy Perales, PTK co-advisor.

“The 38 students have achieved a high level of academic excellence while contributing to their college and the broader community. “We applaud the New Jersey All-State Academic Team members for their hard-work and dedication, and for their many contributions to their colleges and their communities,” said NJCCC President Aaron R. Fichtner, Ph.D.

Bilal Gebril – All-USA Academic Team

Bilal was also named to the 2024 All-USA Academic Team. He is one of only 20 of the nation’s top community college students to receive this honor. The All-USA Academic Team members have demonstrated academic excellence and intellectual rigor combined with leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom to benefit society. Additionally, Bilal received a New Century Transfer Pathway Scholarship, an award funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation and PTK.

Bilal and Samantha graduated on May 23 in PCCC’s 52nd Commencement. Bilal received his Associate in Science Degree in Criminal Justice with highest honors. Samantha received an Associate in Science Degree in Business Administration with honors.  Both are recipients of the 2024 Professor Robert A. Shea Memorial Graduate Achievement Award, a prestigious scholarship award given to two PCCC graduates each year.

Bilal and Samantha plan to continue their education in a bachelor’s degree program next Fall. Congratulations to Bilal and Samantha. PCCC is very proud of them both.
