Passaic County Community College (PCCC) Men’s Basketball team plays Cumberland Community College tonight in the Garden State Athletic Conference Region XIX Tournament. Game time is 6:00 pm in the newly renovated PCCC gymnasium on the Paterson campus.
The PCCC Panthers ascended to the number two spot in this weeks’ NJCAA Division III nationally ranked poll, after being ranked third last week.
The Panthers went 2-0 during the week, defeating Sussex County Community College 87-51 on February 16, and Atlantic Cape Community College 109-91 on February 18. Passaic is currently 24-4 overall and 22-2 in Region XIX play, and has clinched the one seed in the NJCAA Region XIX playoffs.
“Making the climb to number 2 in the national spotlight is both humbling and long overdue for a team comprised of four seniors and five freshman players,” said Coach Anthony Virgil. ”This group of players understands what hard work and dedication is all about, be it on the court and, most important, in the classroom as a student-athlete.”
The Panthers are on the prowl for Tuesdays’ Tournament Play against Cumberland. “This is a well-deserved experience for the student-athletes, coaching staff and PCCC family as a whole,” said Athletic Director Wayne Martin.
PCCC Men’s Basketball was recently honored by the Colleges’ Athletic Department for their achievement during the 2016 – 2017 season.
